Saturated inky purple hue. The nose is more reminiscent of a great Northern Rhone than New World and sets up for the sensory experience of crushed blackberry with a hint of salami, a la your favorite Italian Deli. The blackberry compote continues on the palate with pepper, clove, black licorice and olive tapenade sneaking up on the long finish. Powerful and well integrated throughout, this truly shows off the terrific vineyard site of Pisoni. Bravo!

The dark ruby/purple-hued, more structured 2005 Syrah Pisoni Vineyard Susan's Hill is made from the Estrella clone that has long been considered one of the better Syrah clones. It possesses full body, plenty of depth, and more tannin and earthiness than the Garys' Vineyard cuvee. It should drink well for 5-7 years. -RP
