2005 Armailhac, D Bordeaux Blend
Reviews of 2005 Armailhac, D Bordeaux Blend
Mike Supple, JJ Buckley April 2006 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot. Ruby purple color fades to ruby edges. Fantastic chocolate mint on the nose over floral notes and red cherry. Soft, smooth and supple with round tannins and juicy, spicy fruit on the palate. Vanilla and toasty oak. Long, smooth milk chocolate finish. Outstanding!
90-93 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate January 2007 Abundant tannin in addition to a deep ruby/purple hue, superb purity, and a lovely texture are found in this delicious Pauillac. One of the finest d’Armailhacs I have ever tasted, it is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot that achieved an amazing 13.3% natural alcohol. Aromas of black currants, creamy oak, and earth emerge from this medium to full-bodied effort. It should be drinkable in 4-5 years, and will last for two decades or more.
90 points, Wine Spectator March 2008 Exhibits blackberry, currant and licorice on the nose. Full and velvety, with plenty of good fruit. A balanced, fruity red. Best after 2012. –JS
About 2005 Armailhac, D Bordeaux Blend
About the Winery Armailhac, D
"Château d'Armailhac, a 5eme Cru Classé Pauillac property, is located immediately next to Château Mouton-Rothschild. No other Bordeaux château has undergone as many name changes. In 1956 it was known as Mouton d'Armailhacq before it was renamed, first as Mouton Baron Philippe, then as Mouton Baronne Philippe.Since 1989 its original identity has been restored and it is now known as Château d'Armailhac. Baron Philippe de Rothschild bought the estate in 1933 and it remains in the hands of his daughter, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild.D'Armailhac has 50 hectares of vineyards which are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (25%), Cabernet Franc (23%) and Petit Verdot (2%) The grapes are hand picked, de-stemmed and vinified in the traditional way.D'Armailhac is matured in a combination of new oak barrels (30%) and 2nd fill barrels from Mouton Rothschild. The wine has improved significantly over the last decade, and now represents one of Pauillac's shrewdest buys."
