Fairly strong reduction can't completely hide the sauvage, indeed outright gamy character of the nose and this strong meat and feral quality continues onto the rich, full, serious and utterly delicious flavors that possess the best depth of this trio of Cortons as there is really lovely balance and energy on the long finale.

($95) Good dark red. Dark cherry and raspberry lifted by spices and stone. Juicy, bright and penetrating, with a distinct delicacy for the year. Dark cherry flavor complicated by spices, minerals and licorice. Firmly structured wine, and tougher today than the Epenots. Girardin finds most of these 2005s to be quite closed on the nose at present.

About the Winery Girardin, Vincent
Domaine Vincent Girardin can trace its roots back to the 17th century.  It was originally located in Santenay in the Cote de Beaune, but in 2002 Girardin moved the winery to Meursault.  He buys fruit from old-vine parcels up and down the Cote de Nuits and Cote de Beaune. Vincent Girardin has been hailed as the "golden boy" by Wine Spectator and has produced some of the finest wines coming from Burgundy, which has been noted vintage after vintage by wine critic Robert Parker.br
