Reviews of 2005 La Tour Figeac Bordeaux Blend
Mike Supple, JJ Buckley April 2007 A clear purple and ruby core circled by a bright pink rim. The nose has a very nice complexity to it, adding a darker smoky and gamy quality with gorgeous hints of aged pecorino over bold fresh red fruits, along with a sweeter caramel and toasted cedar quality. In the mouth the wine is sweet and soft up front, building to a nicely balanced core of fruit and tannins. Pure and rich, the palate is dominated by bold red and black cherry flavors leading to a lingering spicy and vanilla cedar finish.
91 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate April 2008 This sexy, seductive St.-Emilion is a combination of primarily Merlot and small amounts of Cabernet Franc. Well-integrated acidity, sweet, velvety tannin, and a gorgeous bouquet of black fruits, earth, roasted herbs, cedar, and fruitcake make for a sensual, endearing wine. In the mouth, the silky texture, full body, and chocolate, black cherry, and licorice-infused blackberry flavors add additional opulence and voluptuousness to this beautifully pure, expansively flavored effort. Consume this sleeper of the vintage now and over the next 12 years.
90 points, Wine Spectator March 2008 Offers mineral, blackberry and currant on the nose. Full-bodied, with coffee, dark chocolate and berry character and a long finish. Silky and refined. Best after 2011. 3,750 cases made. –JS
About 2005 La Tour Figeac Bordeaux Blend
About the Winery La Tour Figeac
The 14.5 hectares of
vines of Château La Tour Figeac are located between Château Cheval Blanc in the
East, Château Figeac in the South and the highly regarded Pomerol appellation to
the West. The warm gravel- and sand-clay-soils, which retain the heat of the day
and release it slowly over night, tend to produce early-maturing, very ripe
grapes. The resulting wines show a natural elegance and concentration, and
reflect all facets of the two grown grape-varieties, Merlot (60%) and Cabernet
Franc (40%). The winery's classification as a "Grand Cru Classé de
Saint-Emilion" values not only the quality and distinction of the terroir, but
also of the resulting wines.
