Andy Frieden, JJ Buckley, April 2008

The color is a deep purple, almost black and opaque with full intensity. The nose has black fruits with a peak of black raspberry. Copious amounts of black berry and plum first hits the palate and then expands in a balanced way into a graceful not over-ripe styled Malbec profile. The wine is framed with medium to high acid (which I believe is the key to this wine's success) and full-bodied, with plus concentration of fruit. The tannins are refined and help bring the wine into beautiful balance and a long, beautiful finish. This wine will pair excellent with a large variety of food and occasions too.

Chris Caughman, JJ Buckley, August 2010

With a dense, opaque purple-black color in the glass, this powerful, yet balanced Malbec boasts an intense nose loaded with bright, floral-scented blackberry and plum along side hints of graphite and licorice. The palate is lush and soft displaying concentrated flavors of ripe black fruits and is framed with vivid acidity and a refined tannin structure that lend to a compelling finish of vigor and length.

Monteviejo's flagship is the Lindaflor Malbec. The 2005 was aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak. It offers up an ethereal perfume of pain grille, vanilla, pencil lead, espresso, blueberry, black cherry, and a hint of dark chocolate. Quite massive on the palate yet light on its feet, the wine exhibits thick, intense flavors, gobs of sweet fruit, concealed tannin, and a very long finish. It should easily age for a decade and drink well through 2030.

Stephen Tanzer's IWC, February 2008

Full saturated ruby. Brooding aromas of black fruits, gunflint, game, violet and sexy new oak. Lush and sweet on entry, then seamless, suave and rich in the middle, with smoky soil tones adding complexity to the dark berry and chocolate flavors. Wonderfully layered, broad wine that should benefit from bottle aging. Finishes with suave tannins and excellent lingering sweetness.

About Winery

Bodega Monteviejo is owned and operated by Chateau Le Gay, of Pomerol. The wines made at this very special property in Argentina are treated with the same dedication and care as those produced back home in Bordeaux. The vineyards, over 100 hectares, are located in the commune of Tunuyan, just 80km south of the city of Mendoza. The goal here is to create wines that can compete with the world's best. Yields are kept low and the vineyard is vertically trained, with vines planted at a density of 5,500 vines per hectare. This configuration corresponds to the region's traditional method of planting old vine Malbec at 1.8m x 1m spacing. The owners are honored to carry on this traditional method of agriculture, as they believe it is the key aspect of what has created Argentina's worldwide reputation for truly world-class wine.
