The nose signals its terroir right out of the gate, with dense aromas of iron, followed up with oak spice and cedar notes. The iron element continues onto the palate, making for a taut, muscular mouthfeel rounded out by mineral and earthy notes along with flavors of mushroom and dried violet. Tannins build on the finish, before softening as the wine becomes more and more seamless with time in the glass. Decant this before drinking, then enjoy with beef dishes, or lay this down for at least 1-3 years.

This has a wonderful nose, with blackberry, licorice, Indian tea and light toasty oak. Full-bodied, with silky, integrated tannins and a long, caressing finish. A pretty, elegant young Pomerol. Much better in bottle. Close to the excellent 2000. Best after 2012.
