A fascinating and beautifully deep nose of leather, wood spice and iron-infused dark berry fruit aromas sits atop the rich and full-bodied but not robust flavors that are delicious, suave and mouth coating on the sappy and almost perfectly balanced finish. This may very well add depth with time in bottle but for the moment, the GE would appear to have slightly better material as well as better integration of the oak treatment. Drink: 2013+

Dark plum colored core with a vibrant violet rim. Great aromas with gamy animal notes up front followed by spicy nutmeg and a hint of cola. Big sweet cherry and blackberry are accented by floral lilac and violet notes. Big in the mouth with blueberry and blackberry dominating. Great body: full, ripe, supple tannins. LONG finish.

The 2005 Clos St.-Denis represents but a two-barrel lot, smelling deeply of fresh black cherry with hints of pungently smoky Latakia tobacco, black tea, salt and lemon zest. A deep, savory soy and roasted meat character along with suggestions of chalk and wet stone on the palate, lead to a vibrant, strikingly pure and intensely fruity, saline finish. This whole wine gives the effect of multiple, oscillating layers of flavor.
