90 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate April 2008 Another top-notch effort from the home property of the brilliant Yves Vatelot, Reignac’s 2005 has a dense ruby/purple color and notes of graphite, black currant, some sweet cherries, and spice box. It is a medium to full-bodied wine with beautiful concentration, decent acidity, and ripe tannin. Despite its humble appellation, this is a very serious wine that is qualitatively up there with some of the better classified growths of the Medoc. It should drink beautifully for 8-10 years. A sleeper of the vintage!
91-93 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate April 2006 Possibly the finest Reignac I have ever tasted from proprietor Yves Vatelot, this superlative blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon is treated like a spoiled child, aged on its lees, and bottled unfiltered. There are over 16,000 cases of this cuvee, which should be uncommonly long-lived for a wine of this pedigree. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by a sweet nose of blackberries, cherries, smoke, and pain grille. Deep, full-bodied, moderately tannic, fresh, and well-delineated, with 14% natural alcohol, it should drink well for 10-12 years.
90 points, Wine Spectator March 2008 There's a good smoky prune note on the nose, with lots of floral and mineral nuances. Has loads of fruit on the palate, with an interesting fresh tangerine note that comes through. Full-bodied and supersilky, with a long finish. Best after 2012. 17,500 cases made. –JS
Jon B. April 2008 Tasted 12 hours after opening. 75% Merlot, 25% Cab Sauv. Dark and dense
purple in the glass that stains the glass. Lovely nose of creme de
cassis, ripe blackberries and black cherry. If I tasted the blind, the
nose would have thrown me off. The nose screams Napa Cab. In the mouth,
though, powerful mouth coating tannins, earthy and a long, tight
finish. It stays with you. It needs at least 6 months to mellow out. I
won't open this for another 2 years. Great QPR for 2005 Bordeaux.
