2006 Biserno Il Pino

Proprietary Blend: 1500ml

$139.99

about this wine:

A careful blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, Il Pino di Biserno is the second wine of the Biserno estate.

The first vintage released was the 2004 and with every successive vintage the wine has improved dramatically.  Il Pino has extraordinary early drinkability and can be enjoyed with roast meats, particularly beef, whether it be filet de sirloin or Tuscan T-Bone.

Dark plum color with a muted but deep red rim. Aromas of saddle leather, sage, and cedar compliment the array of bright red fruits on the nose. Shows excellent concentration yet great finesse as well. The silky and fruit laden entry quickly changes towards a more robust and somewhat tannic finish. Long and very appealing stuff.

The 2006 Il Pino di Biserno opens with warm, expansive aromas of mocha, minerals and toasted oak that meld seamlessly into a core of ripe, dark fruit. This is a restrained style for Maremma, yet here, too, the wine's balance is superb. With time in the glass, the wine comes together even more, hinting at its ultimate potential. Il Pino di Biserno is 35% Cabernet Franc, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 8% Petit Verdot that spent 12 months in French oak. In just its third vintage, Il Pino di Biserno already shows much promise. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2024.-Antonio Galloni

Tasters' Choice Selection: Black-garnet hue to the rim. Fragrant and floral with black cherry fruit imbued with an uplifting mintiness. Opulent black fruit flavors with dusty, soft tannins and focused, tempered acidity. An artful blend skillfully assembled and drinking beautifully.

Dark in color, with gorgeous aromas of crushed blackberry, black cherry and flowers. Full-bodied, with wonderful, polished tannins and a long finish of berries, light toasty oak and coffee. Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best after 2011. 3,500 cases made. -JS

About Winery

Biserno is set in western Tuscany, in the coastal area of the Upper Maremma. The estate lies among the hills of Bibbona. Previously unknown to wine production, it borders the DOC of Bolgheri. The vineyards of Bibbona and Bolgheri meet each other, as Lodovico observes, "very similar to Saint Emilion and Pomerol."
