The 2006 Faugeres reveals solidly constructed, chunky, blue and black fruit aromas and flavors intertwined with notions of new oak, licorice, and espresso roast. Medium-bodied with some unresolved tannins, it is well-constructed and nicely concentrated with attractive purity as well as depth. Consume it over the next 8-10 years.

Bright medium ruby. Superripe, porty aromas of blueberry, espresso and licorice. Deep, sexy and sweet, with very ripe, densely packed flavors of crushed dark berries, licorice and spicy oak. Finishes with ripe, chewy tannins and sweet fruit. Not a subtle wine but offers a lot of flavor-not to mention considerable immediate appeal. (A second bottle of equal quality showed more perfumed lift to its blackberry, licorice and violet aromas and was distinctly less porty; the palate was a bit less weighty and more elegant.) 88 points

Shows dried blackberry on the nose, with hints of mineral and fresh herbs. Full-bodied, with a solid core of fruit and silky, chewy tannins. Cool, minerally and fruity, with excellent length. Very well made for the vintage. Best after 2013. 4,750 cases made. -JS
