Ferrer Bobet is all about respect. Respect for the long traditions of vine-growing and wine-making in the Priorat. Respect for the social and economic development of this rocky, mountainous region in the south of Catalonia. The mutual respect of two friends, Sergi Ferrer-Salat and Paul Bobet, both passionate about the world and culture of wine. And respect for wine lovers looking for a Priorat that reflects with purity and harmony the distinctive mineral essence of this land that produced it.  The first two wines, Ferrer Bobet 2005 and Ferrer Bobet Selccio Especial 2005, were launched in 2008, using grapes from some of the oldest vines in the Priorat

The fruit for the 2006 Ferrer-Bobet was sourced from 100-year-old Garnacha and Carinena which account for 88% of the blend, the balance being Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Aromas of slate/mineral, scorched earth, lavender and roasted black fruits lead to a dense, rich, full-bodied wine with well-concealed ripe tannins. It will continue to open with another 2-3 years of cellaring and will offer prime drinking from 2013 to 2021. -Jay Miller

About Winery

Ferrer/Bobet is the future showplace of Priorat. No expense has been spared in the construction of a magnificent winery and in the planting of the vineyards. Sergi Ferrer-Salat is a young pharmaceutical tycoon with apparently a much greater interest in fine wine than drugs, while his partner Raul Bobet was the long-time winemaker at Torres. Ferrer-Salat makes it clear that his goal is to make the greatest wine possible without regard to whether he makes money. I'm not sure if Bobet would totally agree, but it appears that he is up for the challenge. As for the wines, they are currently made from purchased fruit as the Ferrer-Bobet vineyards are still very young. However, money talks and the winery has been able to access great old-vine Carignan and Grenache fruit, enough so that they might have some difficulty surpassing what they have already achieved when their vineyard matures.
