2006 MacPhail Family Wines Pinot Noir Pratt Vineyard
Pinot Noir: 750ml
$39.99
about this wine:
Jim Pratt has been growing grapes in Sonoma County since 1980 and is one of Sonoma County's most experienced growers. In 1997 he planted his Pinot Noir vineyard to a mix of 6 clones on 15 acres in hilly southwestern Sebastopol. Yield is low - between 2 and 3 tons an acre. The well-drained Goldridge soil, cool climate and clones produce a distinctive crop. Pratt says, "James and I agree on quality and quantity. MacPhail's Pratt vineyard designate captures this site and its clonal diversity."

In the glass this wine shows a vibrant ruby color. The nose is focused and complex with enticing aromas of plum and raspberry, complemented by deeper tones of smoke, damp earth, and a hint of cinnamon. A vigorous, fruity palate is balanced with lively acidity that carries through for a lingering finish. Drink now for a dynamic and bright Pinot Noir or cellar for 1-2 years and experience more subtlety and sophistication.

($58) Medium-deep ruby color; deep and complex cherry and baking spice aromas; rich, ripe black cherry fruit; complex cinnamon, clove and forest floor notes; sweet oak; silky texture; good structure and balance; long finish. A terrific, deep, complex Pinot with a great core of fruit and wonderful silky texture. Drinking beautifully now.

($58) Quite a bit lighter in body than MacPhail's other single-vineyard '06s, this one benefits from the elegant structure. With its silky angularity, it offers complex flavors of cherries, raspberries, orange tea, vanilla, cinnamon, cloves and vanilla-rich new oak.
