The 2006 Reserve from Mt Veeder is a Bordeaux-style blend with all 5 classic varietals. Dark ruby red in color. This opens with a nose of plum, cardamom, licorice, crushed stones and sage, complemented by roasted herbs and chocolate. Medium bodied on the palate, flavors of cassis, blueberry and floral notes emerge and lift the mid palate, supported by complex structure. The tannic nature of this wine lasts from start to finish. Give it a couple of hours to open if enjoying today, otherwise, let it sit in the bottle for another 2 years and enjoy the following 10.

A big, big wine, showing hard mountain tannins and extraordinary concentration of fruit. Made from a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blend of the five classic Bordeaux varieties, it's massive in blackberry, cherry, crème de cassis, mineral and smoky oak flavors that finish dry and long. A serious cellar contender, it should start to come into its own after 2014. S.H.

Firm, intense and well-structured, this very Bordeaux-like red shows taut dried currant, cedar, mineral and graphite flavors. Full-bodied, ending with a minerally aftertaste. Decant. Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2012 through 2020. -JL
