2006 Silver Oak Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley
Cabernet Sauvignon: 6000ml
$699.99
about this wine:
Silver Oak's Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is drawn predominantly from their three Alexander Valley estate vineyards and reflects a blend of their characteristics. The rich cassis and berry flavors of wines from the Miraval vineyard are balanced by the bright, black cherry aromas and firm acidity of wines from Red Tail vineyard. The serpentine soils of the Geyserville vineyard yield wines with a black-pepper spiciness that adds zest to the final blend.

The nose displays aromas of bright Bing cherry and fresh plum, backed by tobacco leaves, chocolate and hints of wild sage. This elegant Silver Oak release presents good acidity, firm tannins and ample, though not overwhelming, oak for support. Drink now with a hearty steak or cellar for up to a decade.

Not clear if this is a long-term ager, but you definitely want to give it a good decanting of at least four hours. You should even pour the glasses and let them to stand for an hour. The interaction with oxygen will open the wine up and allow it to express its herbal, soft deliciousness. Airing also emphasizes the cherry and red currant fruit, letting the palate enjoy this complex, tannic wine at its best. S.H.
