90 points,

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2010

Weinbach's 2006 Gewurztraminer Mambourg Quintessence de Grains Nobles displays candied, confectionary sweetness, encompassing prominent caramel and butterscotch. Sage oil, cassis, musk, and gardenia are among the exotica that add to this wine's fascination, although whether one would go so far as to refer to -allure- will, I strongly suspect, vary from taster to taster. While there is something audacious about a wine this concentrated and sweet, there is something equally audacious about laying any away, since it is so disorganized and overriding in sweetness that I at least can only guess what will emerge over the coming decades.

Full, rich yellow color. Deeply pitched aromas of yellow fruits, herbs, caraway seed, stone and earth. Fleshy, roasted, heavily botrytized flavors convey a strong shriveled grape character. Distinctly thicker and more concentrated than the "regular" Mambourg SGN, but today I prefer the other wine for its captivating fruit.

This fleshy version displays candied grapefruit peel, quince, petrol and lots of herb and spice notes. Light- to medium-bodied, with tangy acidity and a zesty white pepper note showing at the end. Drink now through 2019. 9 cases imported. -AN
