Has a very different flavour register to that of The Armagh; notes of red fruit and mint accompany black fruits; the medium- to full-bodied palate is very supple and smooth.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, December 2009

The purple-colored 2006 The McRae Wood Shiraz spent 15 months in seasoned American and French oak. it gives up an alluring bouquet of cigar box, Asian spices, incense, plum, and blueberry. Layered, ripe, and plush on the palate, this full-bodied offering is densely packed and concentrated. It contains enough structure to evolve for 3-4 years and will offer a drinking window extending from 2012 to 2021. --Jay Miller

Stephen Tanzer's IWC, September 2009

Saturated ruby. Sexy aromas of red and dark berries, Asian spices and dried flowers. More forward than the 2005, offering open-knit red fruit flavors and a supple texture. Gains depth and sweetness with air and shows richer blackberry and dark cherry character on the long, sappy finish. This is drinking well right now.

A back-country Aussie shiraz, this has the scent of the bush, of blackberries and earth. The tannins have powerful force, pushing minerality into the fruit and the sweet, liqueur-like alcohol that manages to slow them down. The structure melds with air and the flavors drive on, unabashedly rustic.

Wine Enthusiast, February 2010

This full-bodied Shiraz starts off with blackberry aromas tinged with menthol, then delivers concentrated blackberry flavors framed by vanillin oak. It's a full-bodied, creamy-textured wine, with a long, slightly warming finish. Drink now-2018.

Wine Front, November 2011

Lots of everything. Mint, bourboned oak, sage and dill, black fruit, licorice, some pepper. Full bodied, plenty of weight and scale, at 15.5 it holds its booze well - would not want to play cards with this baby - ripe tannin, plentiful, acidity a little pumped but fine. Slick of tannin to close. Pretty darn good, though of a style.
