about this wine:
"This sleeper of the vintage is a large-scaled effort produced by a member of the Janoueix family (who also produce the outstanding Lalande-de-Pomerol, Chambrun). It is a powerful, dense, concentrated, muscular, opaque ruby/purple-colored wine with plenty of cassis fruit. Aromatically, it remains tight yet provocative, revealing earthy, leathery, black fruits... This 100% Merlot comes from clay and gravel soils. Yields were 42 hectoliters per hectare and the wine is scheduled to be bottled with no fining or filtration. Sumptuous and full-bodied, this limited production Lalande-de-Pomerol boasts an opaque purple color, a gorgeous bouquet of overripe black cherries, charcoal, mocha, and vanilla, full body, super concentration, and a long, powerful finish..."

A deep ruby purple core with brilliant intensity. The nose is very complex with a classic Right Bank Bordeaux expression that is unmistakable. Black cherry and blackberry fruit lifts from the glass with a complex array of tertiary components making this wine a classic Pomerol. Tobacco and cigar box intermingle with savory mocha chocolate and coffee. Beneath are notes of crushed earth and fresh pavement that adds an extra dimension to the nose of this terrific wine. The palate has sweet black cherry and blackberry fruit that is consistent with the nose. This is a medium to full bodied wine that reminds me of the great early drinking '02 vintage that was so complex at an early stage in its development. The mid-palate opens up nicely, and should add weight as the tannins resolve and lengthen. The wine is a steal at this price and will provide enjoyment for 10 to 15 years easily.

Although not quite the blockbuster I expected from the barrel samples I tasted, this is, nevertheless, an outstanding effort from a vineyard situated next to the garagiste superstar, Le Pin. A dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by sumptuous aromas of truffles, chocolate, kirsch, fig, coffee, and toasty oak. Deep and full-bodied with a broad, savory mouthfeel, and a layered finish, this beauty will provide pleasure over the next 15-20 years. Kudos to Jean-Philippe Janoueix!

Sweet berry and milk chocolate aromas lead to a full body, with a solid core of ripe berries and a velvety texture. There's a pretty structure to this. Best after 2011. 1,500 cases made. -JS
