The 2006 Chardonnay Clare, which comes entirely from the Hyde Vineyard in Carneros, might be the most flamboyant of the three Chardonnays. Honeyed lemons, orange blossoms, a hint of pineapple and quince in addition to some crushed rock are all present in this full-bodied, deeply concentrated Chardonnay, which is even more impressive considering the vintage irregularities for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. This is a stunner that should drink nicely for 4-5 years.

Pale yellow. Stony, powerfully musky aromas suggest ripe pear, orange, iodine and smoky peat; reminded me of an Islay scotch. Vibrant and sharply focused, offering juicy orchard and pit fruit flavors, with an impressively chewy texture. Really stains the palate, finishing with outstanding lift and persistence. This vineyard is all Hyde clone.
