Reviews of 2006 Fevre, Domaine William Chablis Bougros Chardonnay
92 points, Burghound October 2008 This is more restrained and reserved aromatically with equally ripe but even more complex aromas that are somehow cooler and mix floral and spice notes in with the green fruit character that lead to round, robust and well muscled flavors that possess real size and weight plus ample dry extract that coats the mouth on the delicious but austere and serious finish that is brimming with Chablis character. This is really quite impressive and the only nit is a slight touch of backend warmth.
92-93 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate October 2008 The 2006 Chablis Bougros has peach, citrus zest and iris aromas which lead to a lush, rich, spice-tinged palate full of fruit and flowers, yet with an almost shimmering sense of chalky, saline, and iodine minerality, and considerable buoyancy to its finish. If this is suffering at all from its recent filtration, I can’t detect it. This should be worth holding for at least a dozen years.
92 points, Stephen Tanzer August 2008 Good pale yellow-green color. Tangy nose offers ginger, licorice, white pepper and stone. Sappy and spicy if tightly wound; the wine's peach, spice and stone qualities reminded me a bit of a top gruner veltliner Smaragd. Offers lovely sweetness and density, and finishes with terrific length.
About 2006 Fevre, Domaine William Chablis Bougros Chardonnay
About the Wine
Didier Seguier and his team have managed to follow up their amazing
2006s with an equally remarkable collection of 2007s (though he insists
that 6 to 9 months after bottling – when I tasted them – “is the worst
time for expressing the purity of fruit”!). Harvesting here began
early, on September 6 – the earliest start on record save for 2003 –
but without feeling any compunction about taking one’s time, Seguier
emphasized. Even so, the task was completed in 11 days, harvesting
fruit of impeccable ripeness and harmonious though prominent acidity at
a time when many growers were wise not to have begun yet. Without
question, the rigorous sorting that all of the grapes undergo here is
among the keys to the purity and the transparency to nuance of these
wines. As usual at this address, even when one reaches the roughly 80%
level of barrique (none, new, though) a smell or taste of wood is the
farthest thing from one’s mind.
