The classic Brunello nose offers cherry, cassis and violets mixed with notes of roasted coffee bean, saddle leather and a touch of toast. Extremely inviting. On the palate, the wine shows rich fruit that continues to reveal itself layer after layer, each backed by vibrant acidity that keeps the wine bright and lively. A hint of wild spice complements the fruit on the long, luscious finish with just the slightest sweetness. This wine is a clear indication of the quality of the 2006 vintage and one of the best 2006 Brunelli you'll see at this price point.

The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is a thrilling wine loaded with dark fruit, smoke, tar, incense and new leather. This textured, multi-dimensional Brunello shows off marvelous richness and dimension in its fruit. Licorice, iron and menthol add layers of complexity and nuance to the round, enveloping finish. This is a fabulous effort from La Velona. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2026. 94+ -Antonio Galloni

Bright dark red. Lively, appealing aromas of rose petal, sour cherry, spicecake, loam and lavender; smells Italian! Juicy, silky and intense, conveying a lovely subtle sweetness and very good energy to its cherry and leather flavors. This concentrated, fully ripe midweight finishes broad and sweet, with suave, harmonious tannins, no hard edges and lingering, lightly saline notes of red fruits and candied flowers.

Smelling like coffee and toasty oak, with cherry and plum flavors, this rich red is backed by dense, yet enveloped, tannins. A powerful version, boasting loads of sweet fruit and a long, spicy aftertaste. Best from 2013 through 2025. 2,000 cases made. -BS
