Dark cherry red color (opaque at the core with and gets slightly lighter towards the edge) Needs some time to open up, but when it does I find notes to cherry cola, all-spice, leather, and ground black pepper. Soft and supple in the mid-palate with grippy tannins towards the back. This is the perfect wine with roasted red meats or lamb and medium-strong cheeses.

The 2006 Irpinia Aglianico Cinque Querce is a drop-dead gorgeous wine. A vibrant, full-bodied red, the Cinque Querce offers tons of complexity in its black cherries, violets, spices, minerals and menthol, showing superb density and richness. Sweet balsamic notes resonate on the finish, rounding out this exceptional wine. Best of all this -baby Taurasi- is reference point juice that won't break the bank. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2016.
Molettieri is one of my favorite producers in Campania.

($30) Deep red. Expressive aromas and flavors of plum, smoke, minerals and milk chocolate. The palate of this uncomplicated, easygoing red offers a creamy, rich mouth feel and smooth tannins. Finishes juicy, fresh and firm, with a hint of smoke. 88 points.
