Andy Frieden, JJ Buckley, October 2010

Dark, dense wine with a purple core and fuchsia rim. The nose is gorgeous, offering violets, mocha, and loamy clay soil matched by dark blackberry and cassis. With elegance and panache, the palate is quite impressive, and the attack is spot-on cabernet. While bordering on the massive concentration some Napa cult wines are known for, this one maintains balance and precision. The mid-palate shows seamless expansion of densely packed blackberry and crème de cassis which build to a crescendo of powerful but well-manicured tannins that are chewy and plush. In my book, this one is a keeper, worthy of a row or two in the cellar.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, December 2008

The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville reveals more licorice, spice, box, cedar, black cherries, and black currants in its complex, moderately intense aromatics. Full-bodied with outstanding concentration and moderate tannin, it displays the potential to improve for a decade, and last for 15-20 years thereafter.

Wine & Spirits, December 2009

Genevieve Janssens blends this sleek cabernet from Mondavi's To-Kalon Vineyard with small contributions from other Oakville bench sites. It's an impressive 2006, with curranty sweetness in the middle of the tannins that makes them feel rich and stony at once. It gains detail with air, the structure firm, massive and finely made. This is an elegant cabernet suited to five or six years of aging.

90 points,

Wine Spectator, November 2009

Elegant and stylish, with expansive layers of ripe currant, fresh earth, herb, red plum and black cherry. Full-bodied, gaining depth and structure on the finish. Drink now through 2016. 13,700 cases made. -JL

About Winery

In 1966, Robert Mondavi built the first major winery in Napa Valley since prohibition: Robert Mondavi Winery. With the release of the Robert Mondavi Winery's Cabernet Sauvignon in the late 60's the world's eyes were opened to the potential of the Napa Valley. The historic Paris tasting in 1976, where two former winemakers of the Robert Mondavi Winery won first prize, further supported this revelation.

In 1979, Robert Mondavi established the Woodbridge Winery near his childhood home of Lodi, California and took the next step in a journey that would re-invent wine culture in America. Through tireless winemaking innovation, an uncompromising eye for quality and unshakable faith in California's vineyards, Robert Mondavi realized his vision of creating a collection of the most recognized and best-loved wines in the world.
