Reviews of 2006 Rochioli, J Pinot Noir Estate
89-91 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate December 2007 The medium ruby-hued 2006 Pinot Noir Estate possesses soft, strawberry and kirsch-like aromas, abundant sweet berry fruit on the palate, good acidity, and a soft, round style meant to be consumed over the next several years.
In 2006, there is even a smaller amount of wine from Tom Rochioli than usual. Yields were so small and there was so little wine from the Three Corner Vineyard that it was blended with the East Block Pinot. Rochioli sells the majority of the fruit from their 140 acres of vineyards in the Russian River to other producers, which I find remarkable given the quality of what winemaker Tom Rochioli is able to achieve in addition to his superb vineyard sites.
90 points, Stephen Tanzer May 2008 Bright red. Vibrant red berry aromas are complicated by baking spices and minerals, picking up fresh rose with air. Sweet black raspberry and candied cherry flavors offer very good purity and focus, with silky tannins adding grip to the finish. A distinctly fresh and lively style of pinot that is completely fat-free.
92 points, Wine Spectator June 2008 A fragrant, delicate style, with pretty plum, black cherry and wild berry scents that are both rich and elegant. This is sharply focused and displays excellent balance, with a long, persistent finish that reveals extra measures of depth. Drink now through 2012. 3,580 cases made.
About 2006 Rochioli, J Pinot Noir Estate
About the Winery Rochioli, J
"...wines coming from the Rochioli vineyards rank at the top of virtually every winelover's wish list. After his father spent more than a decade farming the land, Joe Rochioli purchased the vineyards in the late 1950s, certain that specific varietals would do best in the unique microclimate of the Russian River Valley. When his son, Tom, began to produce the first Rochioli wines in the mid 1980s, the immediate results were spectacular. The outstanding quality of the Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc, which come from this vineyard, made it clear that the Rochiolis were outstanding winemakers... 161-acre Rochioli vineyard is exceptional. When one combines great vineyards with great farming practices, the obvious result is great wine grapes, and exceptional wines. The Rochiolis still sell some of their grapes to other noted Pinot Noir winemakers. Currently, Tom Rochioli makes about 10,000 cases of estate wine per year... "
