Andy Frieden, JJ Buckley, October 2009

"The color is inky purple with a dense black core and fuchsia rim. The nose displays a floral perfume of crushed blue/black fruits and chocolate. Tertiary components of baking spices and mineral notes add complexity. On the palate, the attack of ripe brambly fruits (olallieberry and boysenberry) are presented in a dense, mouthfilling package. This blockbuster wine is the ultimate crowd pleaser, with copious fruit framed nicely by minerals and sophisticated tarry phenolics offering balance and structure."

Wine Spectator, May 2010

A firm, ripe, muscular wine that's tight, deep, structured, intense and concentrated, serving up a mix of ripe currant, cassis, plum, black cherry and blackberry fruit that's clean, pure, complex and layered, with touches of anise, cedar and black licorice. Ends with chewy tannins. Best from 2011 through 2019. -J.L.

About Winery

The Wagners took the name Caymus from the Mexican land grant known as Rancho Caymus, given to George Yount in 1836, which encompassed what eventually became the town of Rutherford and much of the surrounding area.

The Wagners produced their first vintage in 1972, consisting of 240 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon. Since then, Caymus has focused their efforts in the production of quality Cabernet Sauvignon. Caymus Vineyards remains 100% family-owned. Today's production is 65,000 cases. Farming grapes remains the priority with the family farming about 350 acres of Napa Valley.
