2007 Craggy Range Pinot Noir Te Muna Road Vineyard
Pinot Noir: 750ml
$44.99
about this wine:
From the old, stony soils of the higher terrace on our Te Muna Road
Vineyard, this 33 hectare vineyard is planted with eight clones of Pinot
Noir in more than 40 different parcels.
From this melange of parcels, the grapes are hand picked and fermented
with indigenous yeasts before spending over a year in small French oak
barrels without racking to produce our Te Muna Road Pinot Noir - a dark
and brooding wine with a silky layered texture that provides interest
and complexity.

The 2007 Te Muna Road Vineyard Pinot Noir has also come on leaps and bounds since last year. It has a deep, rich plum-scented nose with touches of orange zest and apricot both side of stage. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, grainy tannins, good acidity with a more masculine, tannic vintage than the entry suggests. Good weight, quite backward with a rounded, quite silky finish. It just lacks a little persistency and verve of the 2006.

From Craggy's own Pinot Noir vineyard, this medium-bodied, creamy-textured effort boasts bright, vibrant aromas of cherries and vanilla. It comes across as soft and easy but not unstructured, with plenty of persistence and elegance. Drink now-2012. - J.C.

Bright and jazzy up front, with plum and red currant flavors on a lively frame, pointing straight through the long, generous finish, which ends with welcome toast and warmth. Needs time to settle into itself. Best from 2010 through 2014. 160 cases made. -HS
