A non-brainer purchase is 2007. The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape spent over a year in neutral wood foudres. A blend of 75% Grenache and 25% Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault, and other authorized varietals, it exhibits sweet black cherry, licorice, pepper, garrigue, and earth notes. Full-bodied with moderate tannins, the sweetness of the fruit, the levels of glycerin, and the wine-s expansive, savory texture support the tannin. It will benefit from another 1-2 years of bottle age, and will drink nicely for 15+ years.

($38) Full red. Highly perfumed aromas of raspberry, cherry and fresh flowers. Supple and sweet, offering juicy red fruit flavors that verge on jammy, with velvety tannins adding support. Reminiscent of a rich New World pinot noir, with very good finishing punch and lingering notes of raspberry and candied flowers. 90 points

Delicious red licorice, crushed currant and fruitcake flavors pump through this direct, well-focused offering. Nicely integrated toast frames the finish. Drink now through 2019. 3,500 cases made.
