2007 Doctor Loosen Riesling Spatlese Wehlener Sonnenuhr
Riesling: 750ml
$24.99
about this wine:
Wehlen's precipitously steep, rocky "sundial" vineyard consistently yields some of the most elegant and sophisticated white wines in the world. The vineyard was rated "Erste Lage" (equivalent to grand cru) in the 1868 Prussian classification of the Mosel, and "Great First-Class" in the Wine Atlas of Germany by Hugh Johnson & Stuart Pigott (1995). The mineral- rich blue Devonian slate soil of Wehlener Sonnenuhr (pronounced VAY-len-er ZON-en-ooer) gives the wines a crisp acidity that
perfectly balances their pure peach and citrus fruit.

Fresh apple in counterpoint with lemon- and vanilla-cream characterize Loosen's 2007 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese, which preserves terrific refreshment on the palate even as it slathers on cream. This is another one of those seemingly levitating, where's-the-alcohol wines. Bitterness of vanilla bean grapefruit zest along with wet stone add further interest to a long finsh. I would anticipate at least 12-15 years of satisfaction.
