96 points,

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, October 2009

The blockbuster 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Imperiale (90% Grenache and 20% other authorized varietals) comes from a vineyard planted in 1902. Aged 80% in tank and 20% in small wood barrels, it may be the finest wine I have yet tasted from Raymond Usseglio. This exquisite offering is Burgundian-like in its floral minerality mixed with dense kirsch liqueur and garrigue notes. Full-bodied, sensationally rich, and large-scaled as well as fresh, vibrant, and precise, this sensational effort can be drunk now or cellared for 15-20 years.

Glass-staining ruby. Powerful, youthfully brooding nose shows deep dark berry, kirsch, Indian spices and licorice. Weighty blackberry and cherry compote flavors are framed by gentle tannins and given lift by tangy minerality. Becomes fresher with air and finishes with excellent clarity and persistence.

Wine Spectator, November 2009

Dark, with a brawny edge to the chestnut, briar and tobacco notes, which lead the way for the muscular core of black currant and fig fruit. There's a solid, tarry finish. Best from 2010 through 2019. 415 cases made.

About Winery

Francis Usseglio left Italy in 1931 to go to work the vines in Châteauneuf du Pape as a vineyard-worker. In 1948, he obtained 8 hectares of vines as a sharecropper and began to produce his own wine in 1949.

With time and hard work, he bought a plot of land on the plateau called "Terres Blanches" in 1962. This is where his first vines, as a landowner, saw the light. In 1964, his son Raymond became a wine grower. After several purchases, he extended his domain which now spreads on 21 hectares.
