Ruby in color, this wine exudes notes of wild strawberry and raspberry on the nose. Behind this seductive fruit lies a more muscular mineral note of crushed slate. The core of deliciously ripe, fresh fruit continues on the palate, all while the sturdy mineral foundation builds around the fruit, creating a wine of uniquely delicate yet powerful structure. This is delicious now with air and will certainly benefit from at least another couple of years in bottle. Spain's answer to Burgundy.

The 2007 Lalama offers a similar aromatic profile but on the palate is richer and more layered while cannily combining elegance and power. Its finish is long and velvety.
Tradition and respect for the past is what Dominio do Bibei, under the leadership of Javier Dominguez, seems to be all about. There is no stainless steel here, with cement and various sizes of wood utilized to contain the wine. There are approximately 100 acres of vines under cultivation, both red and white. -Jay Miller

(85% mencia, 7% garnacha, 6% brancello and 2% mouraton): Bright ruby. Extremely fresh, mineral-accented red berry and floral aromas are complicated by sexy Asian spices and incense. Lively and precise in the mouth, with energetic raspberry and cherry flavors lifted by tangy acidity. Shows very good clarity and snap on the finish, leaving behind cherry and star anise notes. -JR
