Medium iron red core with cinnamon red rim. Intense aromas of bright red cherry, sea water, cardamom, all spice, black tea and bittersweet mocha. This IS Brunello. Medium bodied with robust red fruits that coats the mouth. Tannic at present but the tannins should integrate beautifully with a few years of age. This beautiful Brunello will age gracefully for 15+ years

Dried strawberry and flowers, with hints of vanilla cream aromas follow through to a full body with ripe, silky tannins and a pretty berry aftertaste. The balance and finesse to this wine is beautiful. Try in 2015.

The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino presents an intriguing melange of camphor, smoke, licorice, tar and black cherries, all supported by firm yet well-balanced tannins. Some slightly rustic elements remain, yet there is so much going on in the glass that the wine's small flaws are easy to forgive. Smoke, tar and licorice infuse the huge finish. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.

Loads of balsam intensity with eucalyptus, ground ginger, cola, dried fruit and crème de cassis. This wine also adds a pretty floral note of red rose petal or potpourri that really steals the show. Loads of balance and complexity. Smooth, long finish, good momentum and persistency. Drink after 2015. - M.L.

Enticing mix of macchia, mint, iron, cherry and raspberry aromas and flavors get caught up in the firm, taut structure. Shows fine intensity and expression of place, with a lingering finish of spice and underbrush. Best from 2014 through 2028. -B.S.

About Winery

For many years, Brunello di Montalcino was unanimously considered the most prestigious Italian red wine with controlled name of origin.

The Poggio Il Castellare vineyards are located in the hamlet of Castelnuovo Abate, next to the spectacular panorama of the Abbey of Saint Antimo, opposite the Val d'Orcia (Orcia Valley) from which Mount Amiata rises imposingly.

"Castellare", the name of the farming estate, originates from an old Etruscan settlement.  Ruins of the houses and towers of this settlement can be found on this hill.
