WS 93

Chuck Hayward, JJ Buckley, July 2010

Beautiful dark color with youthful rim. Powerful aromas leap from the glass, bearing a striking similarity to young Crozes Hermitage or St. Joseph, as grilled meats, beef marinade, hints of cracked pepper, smoke, sage, and ripe blackberries create a tantalizing bouquet. The palate is full-bodied with fine tannins offering the finest grip at the end, while well-integrated acids keep the wine light and bright. This Hawkes Bay syrah abounds with sauvage character, bringing thoughts of garrigue and Provencal herbs to mind.

93 points,

Wine Spectator, June 2010

A dynamic red, focused and elegant, spreading a blanket of black pepper over a core of blackberry, currant and licorice flavors that keep kicking through the long, vivid finish. Best from 2011 through 2017. 600 cases made

About Winery

Established in 1992 by the Lawson Family, Te Awa is located in the renowned Gimblett Gravels wine region within Hawkes Bay.The Te Awa site was traditionally used for sheep grazing and other agricultural endeavors, but was built into a leading winery due to its unique soil consistency.

In 2002, Julian Robertson, a successful New York based businessman and wine enthusiast, purchased Te Awa and subsequently purchased the acclaimed Dry River Winery in Martinborough.Today, Te Awa is managed by Chief Winemaker, Ant Mackenzie, and his dedicated vineyard team, most of whom have worked on the land since the winery's inception. Ant is also assisted by Cam McInnes, the former assistant winemaker at Dry River.
