2007 Terlato & Chapoutier, Domaine Shiraz / Viognier
Proprietary Blend: 750ml
$15.99
about this wine:
Another impressive offering from the Terlato & Chapoutier union is the Shiraz-Viognier. It's also uniquely blended, using the Côte Rôtie tradition of combining 5% Viognier with Syrah, which produces a spicy, aromatic wine.
"We are not interested in making wines that are anything less than beautiful and provocative," Chapoutier says. "The vineyard is young but greatness is possible."

A very perfumed and complex nose - raspberry jam and floral notes while the wine rests in the glass, with swirling deeper notes of meat, pepper and underbrush and a hint of smoke come out, providing the perfect complement and support to the sweet fruit. Smooth on the palate, but with lively acidity, the red fruit (cherry, raspberry, cranberry) flavors mingle with a touch of oak. Adequately firm tannins cap things off and the finish hits the sweet spot (not too short, not too long). A super value from an incredible partnership.

This joint-venture has been turning out consistently charming, balanced Shiraz over the past few vintages. The 2007 is simultaneously peppery-spicy, floral-perfumed and meaty-savory. It's medium-bodied, with a lovely plump softness to its mouthfeel, yet not without spine. Drink it over the next 5-8 years.
