Christopher Massie, JJ Buckley, March 2012

Very deep ruby in color. Smashing aromatic profile combines myriad torrefaction aspects with deeply fruited, jammy aromas of pure currants and other black fruits. Jammy, sweetly spicy, cinnamon, clove, allspice; just amazing. Very modern, jammy, sweet and powerful style of wine making. This is a real wow wine. Big, powerful and quite serious. Very complex, completely balanced and all there. Wow. 94+

Chuck Hayward, JJ Buckley, February 2012

Nearly opaque ruby core, fading to brick at the rim. The nose is traditional Brunello, with sour cherry scents paired with more pronounced aromas of earth and sweet spice. As with the nose, the palate displays traditional Brunello character. Light black cherry and currant sit in a framework of pepper and firm tannins, with more complex flavors becoming evident with time in the glass. This wine will reward a short spell in the cellar, with peak maturity in 10-12 years.

Aromas of ripe raspberries and blueberries follow through to a full body, with a solid core of fruit and bright acidity. Dried lemon rind as well. This is a wine that needs a few years to open and show you what it truly has. Always serious.

The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is gorgeous in this vintage. Sweet red berries, flowers, mint, hard candy and licorice are some of the many notes that flow from this radiant, hugely expressive wine. The 2007 stands apart for its sensual, feminine personality and fabulous overall balance. High-toned floral notes waft from the glass on the sensual finish. There is just a touch of sweetness from the ripeness of the fruit. The 2007 was vinified in conical oak vats and aged in Slavonian oak casks for 40 months, a very traditional approach that works nicely here. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2027. 93+

Good, full bright red. Very ripe but lively aromas of black cherry, licorice and menthol lifted by flowers and mint. A juicy, tight midweight with good medicinal reserve to its solid flavors of black and red cherry. Powerful (15% alcohol, according to the label) but not hot or tough. This firmly structured, classically styled Brunello finishes with substantial building, dusty tannins and very good lift. Built to age.

Extremely bold and dark with exceedingly Brunello-like extravagance and opulence. Inky darkness and loads of aromatic momentum in the form of blackberry, cherry liqueur, spice, leather, tobacco, rum cake, dark cinnamon, vanilla bean and bitter chocolate. Impressive complexity. Soft, ripe and generous on the close, but not overdone or overripe. Well-contained and balanced. - M.L.
