About the Winery Cape Mentelle
Situated mid-way between the township of Margaret River and the popular surfing beaches of Prevelly, Cape Mentelle is ideally located for visitors to the region.
Its spacious, rammed earth Tasting Cellar offers a comprehensive range of wines for sampling and sale, including special Cellar Door releases normally unavailable through retail outlets. The Cellar looks through to the winery’s barrel hall, home to over several hundred oak barriques of quietly maturing cabernet. Professional and friendly staff provide excellent service and are well-informed about all aspects of wine production.
The winery is surrounded by landscaped native gardens, in which visitors are welcome to picnic or to just relax and enjoy the busy local bird life.
Private tasting facilities are available for special interest groups at negotiated rates, and light meals can be catered on request.
Cape Mentelle was one of the first wineries to be established in the Margaret River region. First planted in 1970, there are today over 120 hectares under vine, and the winery crushes about 1,500 tonnes of fruit from estate and contract vineyards.
About the Wine
"Cape Mentelle Sauvignon Semillion Blanc is a focused wine with intense aromas of passion fruit, lemon rind and a hint of spicy oak. The juice is gently expressed from the skins during vinification. Some batches of Semillion receive extended skin contact for further flavor extraction and to facilitate pressing. The wine is mainly fermented in stainless steel tanks with thirty percent fermented in new French and American oak barrels. It is defined by clean, refreshing flavors and a lengthy finish."
