Deep black ruby core with a soft red-ruby rim. Aromas of incense, boysenberry, kirsch, and black currant surround a core of vanilla and sweet oak. Nice attack on the mid-palate with with a core of red fruit, sweet tannin, and anise. A little cocoa and red currant show nicely towards the finish which is primarily defined by red cherry and moderate wood tannins. Nicely balanced for such an extracted wine and excellent for the vintage.

78% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. 35 year old vines planted on 10.8 hectares on the Cote Pavie. Color is a rich red garnet with full intensity. Clean and pure, the brett is almost completely gone. Now I can really get behind this wine as all the effort of Stephen Derenoncourt has paid off well. Nice creamy nose of super cassis de Dijon. Pleasing crème de cassis peaks with black raspberry fruit in the mid-palate wrapped in precise ripe tannins – a big wine. Derenoncourt consults.

Moderately saturated medium ruby. Aromas of black fruits, coffee and mocha, with a whiff of cherry liqueur. Then sweet, round and soft, with noteworthy depth to the black fruit, mineral and licorice flavors. Finishes sweet and long, with ripe, suave tannins and very good breadth. Serious, complex, stylish wine with plenty of shape and energy.
