Chris Caughman, JJ Buckley, August 2010

Showing a dark ruby-red in the glass, this polished Chateauneuf de Pape features a perfumed, floral nose of candied red raspberry and strawberry alongside notes of licorice and herbs. Medium-bodied on the palate, framed by chalky tannins and bright acidity, this Chateauneuf finishes long and with lingering consistent flavors that echo the nose and palate.

94 points,

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, October 2009

The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Pierres Dorees is composed of 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre, and 15% Syrah that spends time in used, 1- to 4-year-old Burgundy barrels. Only 10% of the blend is aged in steel. It also includes a lot of stems during fermentation, but that is certainly not noticeable in either the aromas or flavors. Its dense purple color is followed by a sweet, floral-dominated nose of incense, soy, licorice, black fruits, meat juices, and bouquet garni. Deep, full-bodied and powerful as well as silky-textured, layered, and long, this beautiful wine should evolve for 10-15 years. The stars in Patrick Lesec's porfolio are the superb Chateauneuf du Pape cuvees he fashions, but there are also some stunning bargains for shrewd consumers. By the way, Lesec chose not to produce any Chateauneuf du Papes or Gigondas in 2008.

About Winery

This impressive collection of wines from the most important villages in the Southern Rhône is bottled under the Patrick Lesec Selections label. They are in fact all estate-bottled wines, vinified in the cellars of the properties that Patrick Lesec has contracted to work with.

Patrick makes great efforts to search out the finest terroirs, the best soils with old vineyards - and thus the finest sources of grapes - in each appellation. These are often growers who own parcels of the best sites, but who may not bottle wine under their own label. Historically, these growers have sold their production to negociants who blend and market their own cuvées.

Patrick's cuvées of Châteauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, Cairanne, Rasteau and Vacqueyras clearly reflect the style of their respective appellations and terroirs. They have in common lovely aromatics, a distinctive purity of fruit flavors, soft, round tannins and long, pleasant finishes. His cuvées are fresh, natural and vibrant. They generally represent great values.
