Share of their situation, the red wines resulting from the Premiers Crus of Pernand-Vergelesses are at the same time fine and elegant. They offer more fat and moreover power that Villages wines. The visual reveals a wine with purple-blue tints and subtle nuances. Its expressive raspberries violets and blackcurrant notes offer a fleshy and beautiful intensity wine. In mouth its full and delicate texture will astonish us. Shows a delicate and restrained nose of cherry and blackberry upon opening, but after some time it expands aromatically to display nice freshness and depth. An underlying streak of minerality runs through, along with a lovely spice component that blends well with the fruit and a whiff of citrus rind. Silky in texture, it offers focused, firm flavors of tangy cherry, berry and rhubarb. Still quite youthful in profile, this is well structured, as shown when a little air coaxes forth the potential of the wine.

About Winery

The Mongeard family arrived in Vosne-Romanée in the eighteenth century, and records show a Mongeard working as vigneron for Domaine de la Romanée-Conti in 1786. In 1945, Jean Mongeard, whose mother was a Mugneret, found himself making wine at the age of 16. His father had died five years before, and there was no one left to do the job. The entire 1945 crop was purchased by Baron le Roy, Marquis d'Angerville and Henri Gouges. Gouges instructed the young Mongeard to personally bottle the wines, rather than sell in barrel.
