Andy Frieden, JJ Buckley, November 2011

Inky purple core, opaque with full intensity all the way to the rim. A brooding bouquet offers aromas of frankincense and black licorice, leading into classic Italian terroir components of leather and earthy tar, framed by black fruit. A massive attack of pure black fruit extract expands to a crescendo with intense power. Yet like a fine Cuban cigar, the seamless texture is 'el sublimo'. Juicy and full of blackberry and cassis, this wine is lively and pulls effortlessly across the palate with extreme pleasure, while the finish is graceful, boosted by excellent acidity balancing the weighty fruit. The tannins are so well integrated it drinks easily now; however, cellaring for 3 to 5 years will add to the enjoyment.

The 2007 Eneo is simply awesome. Juicy red cherries, new leather, tobacco, wild cherries and earthiness come together in a rich, powerful style. Elements of ripeness and structure are combined in a classy wine of notable pedigree. The finish is long, energetic and focused, bringing everything back into place with remarkable harmony. The 2007 Eneo is 40% Montepulciano, 25% Sangiovese, 25% Marselan and 10% Alicante Bouschet that was aged in used French oak barrels. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027. -Antonio Galloni

A wine that tastes like blueberry jam, with hints of vanilla. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long finish. The texture is very inviting. Best after 2011. 2,250 cases made. -JS
