Oh the wonders of Priorat - especially one with a few years of bottle age. A concentrated wine with a saturated dark purple hue and translucent rim. The bouquet of crushed rocks, violets and muddled blackberries is alluring, but the floodgates really open on the palate, with its gobs of ripe mountain berries oozing with glycerol. Packing a full-bodied finish that lingers for a good two minutes, tertiary notes of licorice and sweet tobacco appear on the back end. Traces of French oak are quite integrated throughout. The wine's suppleness only begins to emerge after an hour of aeration. Ready to impress (preferably with a hearty meat pairing). Well made, with the structure and intensity to age for another 2-4 years.

The 2007 Idus de Vall-Llach was produced from older vines, some of it purchased, with the focus on Carinena. It received nearly the same elevage as the Embruix while spending 14 months in French oak. Purple/black in color, it exhibits a brooding aromatic array of wet stone, licorice, fruitcake, plum, and blackberry. Thick, rich, and full-bodied on the palate, it has layers of fruit, a silky texture, and impeccable balance. Give it 2-3 years of additional cellaring and drink it from 2013 to 2027.

(40% carinena, 30% merlot and 10% each of garnacha, cabernet sauvignon and syrah; 15% alcohol): Opaque ruby. Aromas of dark berry compote, violet and licorice, with a bright mineral nuance emerging with air. Dense, sappy and sweet, with impressive concentration and depth to its black and blue fruit and floral flavors. Finishes long and spicy, with pliant tannins and lingering licorice and boysenberry qualities.
