Planted to 60% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, 7% cabernet franc, and 3% petit verdot & carmenère. The soil is composed of deep gravel and clay. The nose exhibits aromas of black cherry and raspberry tinged with smoke and spice. The red fruit flavors carry over to a medium-bodied palate, picking up traces of roasted coffee and earth. The tannins have subsided since I tasted this from barrel, though their presence today and overall structure will make this a solid choice for dinner companion. A charming red for near term consumption.

A pretty, seductive style of wine, the medium-bodied, dark plum/ruby-tinged 2008 exhibits generous quantities of black cherries, tobacco leaf, licorice and earth as well as loads of spice, an endearing, lush texture and rich fruit. Enjoy it now and over the next 10-15 years.

Full-bodied, smooth wine, with spice and black plum fruit flavors packed into the sweet tannic structure. It's solid and chunky, a sign of the greater concentration coming out of Carbonnieux in recent years. R.V.
