The Signature Cabernet Sauvignon has been the Chappellet flagship wine for more than three decades. It is a benchmark for the long-lived hillside wines of the Napa Valley; full of structure and ageing potential, yet seductively forward in its concentrated varietal character. The dry, rocky soils of Pritchard Hill produce small, intensely flavorful grapes. Crop thinning allows for full, even ripening and elevates flavor complexity.

Clean and composed with a proper fix on well-defined, young Cabernet fruit, this nicely crafted opus smacks of black currants and ripe cherries with deft touches of sweet oak and violets in the bargain. It is moderately full-bodied and slightly supple in feel and is roughed up at the finish by age-appropriate tannins. It is not a wine meant to be gulped down right away, but it has the right pieces in place to mature into beauty some five or six years down the line.

About Winery

Chappellet is truly a family-run operation as Donn and Molly Chappellet and their sons Jon-Mark and Cyril have maintained their winery on top of Pritchard Hill for well over 30 years. Donn Chappellet was the first Napa Valley vintner to establish a winery above the Napa Valley floor. The vineyard is set at around 1,800 feet which sets it above the fogline and allows for extra sunlight during the day and cooler, moderating temperatures at night, resulting in more concentrated fruit on the whole.
