Opague crimson with a garnet rim. Initially restrained, this opens to shows plentiful aromas of new saddle leather and cured meat, along with precise plum, blueberry, baking spices, and lavender notes. Round and elegant on the palate, with well-integrated ripe tannins and grilled meat, tar, and black cherry flavors, plus chalky minerality. Good structure and fresh acidity keep this well-balanced and drinking really nicely. This is developing well and should drink nicely over the next 5+ years.

The 2008 Martinet Bru is a bit more forward and elegant. It can be approached now but will benefit from another 2-3 years of cellaring. Mas Martinet is owned by Jose Luis Perez, one of the original Priorat pioneers. He has turned over day-to-day operations to his daughter, Sarah. The estate owns 10 hectares of vineyard planted in the famous llicorella soil that gives the DO its distinctive character.-Jay Miller
