BH 91

91 points,

Burghound, January 2011

An intensely earthy and very fresh layered red berry fruit suffused nose introduces rich and full-bodied flavors where the volume imposes no diminution of the precise and detailed finish that is admirably complex and driving. A combination of finesse and power that is certainly attractive though on an overall basis, this is no better than the Cazetiers.

About Winery

Reputed for having once been the source for many of Maison Leroy's Grand Cru offerings - as reported by Burghound - Dupont-Tisserandot is once again enjoying a much deserved return to fame. Thanks to a revival in wine-making as well as cellar techniques, this venerable Domaine's wines are on the short list of must-haves for serious Burgundy enthusiasts. The attention and rave reviews of professional wine-writers to include Allen Meadows and the Wine Spectator have likewise cemented its renewed status. Beginning with the other-worldly 2002s - which garnered upwards of near-perfect scores from the Wine Spectator - and continuing through the most recent releases, Dupont-Tisserandot's bottlings (now made by the current generation, Didier Chevillon) are simply stellar.

Based in Gevrey Chambertin, with vineyard holdings spanning approximately 50 acres across 20 individual appellations, Dupont-Tisserandot is most famous for their old vine parcels throughout Gevrey. These parcels include the most highly regarded Premier Crus of the village along with their pristinely-placed holdings within the AOC's most revered Grand Crus of Charmes, Mazis and others. Rounding out these holdings are the family's parcels on the Grand Cru hill of Corton, where they bottle one of the region's highest scoring crus, their Corton-Rognet.

With the passing of the torch to the daughters of Bernard Dupont-Tisserandot, a new generation has taken the reins. Bernard's daughters, Marie Francoise and Patricia join with their husbands Jean-Louis Guillord and Didier Chevillon to raise the level of wine-making even further. Green harvesting, sorting tables, 100% new oak for the Premier as well as Grand Crus and additional time in barrel for the top cuvees are just some of the advancements employed by the latest group of gifted wine-makers at this generations-old Domaine. And judging from the recent press, it's appropriate to state that this Domaine is not to be missed.
