While honoring the tried-and-true winemaking techniques that have earned Pine Ridge its reputation for excellence, the Forefront blending philosophy takes a different approach. Rather than following the usual norms-wines characterized by appellation or tradition-each grape variety is sourced from growing conditions in which it develops its best expression. For unusual complexity, fruit from several regions is combined. And instead of restricting their  wines to the expected varieties, Forefront experiments with interesting blends-like using a generous dose of voluptuous Syrah to complement the deep fruit and structure of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Dark black fruit on the nose is complemented by notes of wild mushroom, graphite, toasty oak, spice and a touch of mint to brighten the aromas. The wine starts off big and jammy, with firm, precise tannins, but stays in balance with a plush, approachable texture. The prominent syrah in the blend keeps the wine round and lively, and ample acidity provides lift straight through a finish of decent length. Definitely a wine built to drink in the short term.

About Winery

After developing Pine Ridge, the Andrus family began to explore other emerging wine regions, from the Pacific Northwest to New Zealand. In Oregon, their Burgundian philosophies brought wine quality to a new level. They adopted the grand cru model, with its emphasis on terroir, and cultivated numerous French clones that they matched to the region's growing conditions. To provide ideal aging temperatures, they drilled the state's first underground wine caves. Their forward thinking helped to establish Oregon as one of the world's premier Pinot Noir producers.
