59% Cabernet Sauvignon & 39% Merlot (which leaves 2% to the "other" category), this is the first vintage of Lafon-Rochet to be mainly Cabernet Sauvignon. This sits right in the middle of Cos d'Estournel and Chateau Lafite-Rothschild. A perfect example of a St. Estephe that blooms in the glass-starting with damp earth, it yields to classic Cabernet flavors of cassis and dusty spice, becoming prettier and prettier with air. This features a very balanced palate and good concentration and sweet, fine tannins. I'd hold until 2014 and then drink over the next ten years.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, May 2011
A strong effort for this vintage, the 2008 exhibits a dark plum/purple color, plenty of firm, rugged, austere tannins, copious red and black fruits, admirable flavor intensity and medium body. Cellar it for 3-4 years and drink it over the following 15.

Dark tannins provide the structured for the Cabernet Sauvignon black currant flavors. It has power-this is a big and solid wine, given tension by tannins, that will take several years to soften out. R.V.
Wine Spectator, March 2011
A direct red, with a firm edge to the beam of black cherry and black currant fruit. The light chalkiness edge lingers on the tobacco-tinged finish, though the plum fruit fleshes out enough for balance. Drink now through 2014. -JM
