2008 Lucia, Vineyards Pinot Noir Garys' Vineyard
Pinot Noir: 750ml
$44.99
about this wine:
The Garys' Vineyard Pinot Noir is the flagship wine of Lucia Vineyards & Winery and a joint venture between two native growers of the Santa Lucia Highlands (AVA established in 1991). Gary Pisoni and Gary Franscioni planted this 50-acre vineyard to pinot and syrah in 1997. Its location on a sloping hillside in the center of the 16-mile long appellation offers a true representation of the Santa Lucia Highlands: Alluvial soils with a lot of fog and wind in the summer.
Specific barrels are hand selected and blended together to create a wine that best reflects the unique terroir of the Garys' Vineyard. This site produces wines of vibrant, pretty and floral aromatics with a lush, rich texture and firm acidity. The wines drink well upon release, but contain the acidity and tannins to age gracefully for several years.

The gorgeous 2008 Pinot Noir Garys' Vineyard (with about 25% whole clusters and a slightly increased use of new French oak - 50%) is great stuff. Dense ruby/purple-tinged with notes of plums, black cherry, black raspberry, and currant, with hints of graphite and subtle smoke, the wine is complex, fleshy, and exuberantly California in style, but with unmistakable Pinot Noir authenticity - richer, denser, and more velvety textured than almost any Burgundy that readers are likely to run across. With its long, fruit-filled, layered finish, the overall impression is one of voluptuousness and seduction. Drink it over the next 5-7 years.
