about this wine:
"Monbousquet is a blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled, stainless steel tanks and the wine is then aged in 100% new oak barrels for 18 months. Monbousquet is bottled unfined and unfiltered...Mature open nose of mulberries and wet straw. A little dry on the palate with mature tannins. Well-structured with fine chewy black fruits. Quite spicy on the finish..."

60% Merlot; 30% Cabernet Franc; 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from 40 year old vines and a yield of 40hls/ha. Vibrant purple core and purple rim with full intensity. Focused perfume of blackberry blossom, and blackberry pie and mocha with fresh pavement minerality that is persistent. The palate is impressive with a bramble of spicy blackberry and black raspberry liquor with a creamy rich lush broad and expansive mid-palate. It is like a chocolate cake with a molten chocolate center! The palate is just impressive in intensity and persistence with ripe plus concentration of fruit and well polished tannins. This will benefit from aging, but you will want to drink it now and enjoy the forward densely packed fruit now!

This sexy, beautiful wine has the same potency (14% alcohol) as the 2010, which is surprising given the difference in alcohol strengths in these two vintages. Soft, round and opulent, this sexy 2008 reveals lots of white chocolate, espresso roast, Christmas fruitcake, black currant and cherry characteristics in its flamboyant bouquet. Round, medium to full-bodied and lush, it can be enjoyed now and over the next decade. This is a sleeper of the vintage.

A dark, toasty style, with lush espresso, melted fig and currant paste notes that glide over ample but velvety tannins. Polished and modern, with nice depth on the finish. Best from 2013 through 2018.-J.M.
