2008 Mongeard-Mugneret, Domaine Echezeaux Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir: 750ml
$109.99
about this wine:
Echezeaux wines are a clear garnet or ruby red, the exact hue often varying considerably. When young these wines have vanilla-scented, smoky, woody aromas or a hint of torrefaction, combined with suggestions of red fruits and spices. After a few years the nose becomes more vegetable or animal, with scents of mushrooms, truffles or woodland undergrowth.
The great complexity of the bouquet makes this a wine which is both rich and feminine; it is silky, fat and mellow, with fine, delicate and fairly supple tannins. In the mouth the attack is spirited, the balance pleasant and there is a succulent fullness with aromas of red fruits.

Medium plum red core with a cinnamon colored rim. There nose is quintessential Burgundy, with its aromas of red cherry, rhubarb, menthol and anise, along with a slight hint of underbrush. Not only is the bouquet complex, but it showcases pedigree and place. The palate offers supple tannins and medium weight as well as more red cherry, raspberry and mint, all with a nice freshness and purity throughout. The finish is precise and lengthy with subtle tannins. Despite its relative youth, this is very elegant and surprisingly approachable right now.

A ripe, spicy and relatively elegant aromatic profile presents a fruit array that is primarily red-fruit based. The rich and full-bodied flavors possess ample volume and the tannins are really quite fine but dense and as such, the persistent and solidly well-balanced finish is firm and mildly austere. This will not be an early drinker.
