91 points,

Connoisseurs' Guide, Connoisseur's Guide, March 2011

Striking aromas of currants, sweet oak and toasted brioche are followed up here by deeply fruited, wholly like-minded flavors whose early plumpness and clear bent to ripeness remind just a bit of top-flight Cabernet from closer to home. Its latter-palate structure, however, is very much that of younger claret, and, if arguably a little grippy and austere at the finish just now, this is a wine with great places to go.

Compared to 2006 and 2007, the 2008 dry white wines of Bordeaux are inferior, but that does not mean they are not very good. They do not possess the flesh, power, or richness of the 2006 and 2007, but they reveal precise, intensely aromatic personalities, lighter bodies, and more noticeable acidity. These remain among the world's most underrated world-class dry white wines. I will provide full tasting notes once they are in bottle, but following are the dry whites I tasted along with their approximate scores.

(a blend of 66% sauvignon blanc, 30% semillon, and 4% muscadelle) Light straw-gold. Ripe, appealing aromas of yellow melon and green fig, complicated by quince, vanilla and white chocolate. Rich and suave on the palate, with more melon and guava flavors. This very classy, impeccably balanced wine has a long, clean finish featuring a lingering note of white pepper and a distinctly saline quality. Tasted three different times with consistently high scores.

Dense and rich, with spice, honey and apple pie character. There's lovely richness and freshness for the vintage. -JS
