Jim Collins, JJ Buckley, September 2011

Opaque, saturated. Charming aromas of baking spice, mocha, anise and a hint of smoke greet the nose. The forward palate is packed with black fruit framed by supple, sweet tannins, and the fruit carries through as milk chocolate and cassis lead to a succulent, juicy mouthfeel. A nice density and viscosity make for a memorable and distinctive, lingering finish. Balanced and impressive, this gives a strong indication that it will become more opulent with a few years in the cellar.

90 points,

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, May 2011

This sexy, seductive 2008 offers abundant notes of Asian plum sauce, blueberries and black currants, a seductive, plush texture, impressive purity and a long, elegant finish. Dark ruby/purple and medium to full-bodied, this wine should be drunk now and over the next 8-10 years.

90 points,

Wine Spectator, April 2011

Offers lots of dark coffee, bittersweet cocoa and roasted fig aromas and flavors laid over muscular tannins. The smoky, broad finish rumbles along. Best from 2012 through 2015. 8,000 cases made. -JM

About Winery

In 1929, three kilometres from the famous church tower of Saint-Emilion, a talented man of vision, Georges Mestreguilhem founded the family estates by purchasing Château Pipeau. His son, Pierre Mestreguilhem continued to enhance the estate, thereby confirming the spirit of the family.
Thus was born the real spirit of the lineage, from careful tending of the vines, to obtain optimum maturity. Thank's to strict wine-making rules, Château Pipeau imposed its style, with expressive fruit, an opulent nose of red berries, with great body, yet also softness.
